Celebrating women in logistics

DHL Express

In traditionally male-dominated industries, such as logistics, it is essential to challenge stereotypes and celebrate the significant contributions of women in order to create an inclusive workplace where all can belong.

As a global organization, DHL acknowledges the crucial role each and every employee plays in advancing gender equality. From contributing to the creation of an inclusive world that cherishes diversity to fostering work environments where women’s careers can flourish.

In honour of International Women’s Day, DHL Express UK set out to launch an internal and external communications campaign, underscoring the collective responsibility of all DHL employees in driving positive change. The objective was to dispel the misconception that logistics is a male-dominated industry ill-suited for women.

Acknowledging Women's Accomplishments

To shine a spotlight on the remarkable achievements of women in logistics, we initiated a campaign that unveiled and celebrated the personal narratives of inspirational women within the DHL Express UK community.

All team members were invited to nominate female colleagues who had inspired them. The initial nominees then received an email, encouraging them to kickstart a ‘virtual chain letter,’ demonstrating how the recognition of a single individual in the community could set off a ripple effect of inspiration.

This chain of recognition traversed through the organization, generating a wave of motivation and fostering a sense of community spirit. We harnessed these virtual chains to craft engaging social media posts for LinkedIn, orchestrated an Instagram takeover, and staged an internal DHL TV takeover.

Making a meaningful difference

Through this campaign, DHL Express UK not only celebrated the achievements of women but also galvanized its entire workforce to participate actively in supporting gender equality and creating a more inclusive and welcoming industry. The initiative effectively challenged the stereotype of logistics as a male-dominated field, emphasizing that women play a pivotal role in its success.
